Meet Our Doctors!

Dr. Richard O. Cook (7/21/1930 – 2/20/2017)

Dr. Cook received his B.S. Degree in Dairy Husbandry and his Veterinary Medical Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956. Dr. Cook was in private practice for 50+ years. Dr. Cook remained active in local organizations and was an organizer and Chairman for the Harford County Farm Fair for many years.

Deborah Kelly, VMD

Dr. Kelly is from White Hall, MD where she grew up on a horse farm and where she still lives today while raising Show Hunters. She graduated from Towson State University with a BS in Chemistry and Biology. She then earned her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. She has been with Bel Air Veterinary Hospital since 1994. Her interests include showing hunters, all outdoor sports and spending time on the farm with her 3 dogs, 1 donkey and 7 horses.

Dave Stevenson, DVM

Dr. Stevenson is a Bel Air area native. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. Degree in Biology in 1997. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary from VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. His areas of interest include internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry.

Thomas Schmidt, DVM

Dr. Schmidt received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 1982. He is the former owner of the Oxon Hill Animal Hospital and Clinton Animal Hospital and also has practiced emergency medicine in Maryland, Virginia and New York for several years.

Lucas Trout, DVM

Dr. Trout is a Harford County native, raised in Baldwin, MD where he worked for Ehrdardt Dairy Farms. After graduating in 2008 from Calvert Hall College High School, he attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he played varsity baseball and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Biology. He earned his DVM in 2016 from VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine, in Blacksburg,VA. There he spent three years raising Simmental beef cattle, meat and wool sheep, backyard poultry and show pigs. He is pleased to bring both livestock and companion animal experience to Bel Air Veterinary Hospital. Away from the hospital, he enjoys shooting pool and clay targets and spending time with his family, wife, and canine companions, Sadie and Lucy.

Kara Young, DVM

Dr. Young grew up in Monkton, MD where she was involved with horses from an early age. She graduated magna cum laude from Colorado State University in 2011 where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Equine Science and a minor in Business Administration. In 2015, Dr. Young earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University. Following graduation, she completed a year-long rotating internship in Large Animal Surgery, Internal Medicine and Emergency & Critical Care at University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She then worked at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine before returning to Maryland. When not working, Dr. Young enjoys horseback riding, traveling and spending time with her family including a beagle named James.

Meet Our Vet Tech’s!

Margaret

Margaret has lived in Harford County for most of her life. She received her AA in 1984 and has worked as a Registered Vet Tech for past 25 years. She has been employed with Bel Air Veterinary Hospital for more than 30 years. When not at work, Margaret enjoys spending time with her family.

Dawn

Dawn graduated from Virginia Tech in 1993 and 1994, with B.S. Degrees in Wildlife Science and Biology, respectively, and received her Registered Veterinary Technician license in 1996. While in Blacksburg, she worked at VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine, a private practice and volunteered
for the New River Wildlife Center. Dawn has been with Bel Air Veterinary Hospital since 1995 and has been a Surgery/Veterinary Technician and a past Assistant Office Manager. Previously, she has worked concurrently for Johns Hopkins Bayview as their Senior Surgery/Facility Vet Tech and as an
Ambulatory Surgical Tech for Dr. Ron Fallon, specializing in referral hard and soft tissue surgeries. Now, she enjoys working almost full time in surgery and performing dentals. When not at work, Dawn raises her two teenage boys and has fun with all her rescue animals: two greyhounds and four cats, reading, and being outdoors with friends.

Gaby

Gaby graduated from Harford Tech in the Animal Science Program, attaining the Animal Assist Certificate. She then graduated from the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh in 2015. She started working at Bel Air Veterinary Hospital in 2009, starting out in the kennel, moving to a receptionist and then to a Registered Veterinary Technician position. Her interests at work include critical care/emergency and dentistry. She performed her Externship at Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialist. Gaby enjoys spending time with her friends, family and her dogs, Mia, Sophie and Summer; her cats Henry and Pretty (her Princess); and her rabbit Ruger.

Chris

Chris is a lifelong resident of Harford County and has been working at Bel Air Veterinary Hospital since June 2015 . He graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at CCBC in 2013. When not working, he enjoys reading, playing video games, watching movies and spending time with his family, friends and two cats-Jimmy and Beanie.
